"Dajhia Ingram Maddox seeks to enrich lives and communities through the arts. Originally from Paterson, NJ, she is an advocate for arts education and believes in the power of community building through dance. Dajhia holds a BFA in Dance Education from the University of the Arts and an MFA in Dance from Florida State University. Mrs. Maddox is privileged to be a former member of Gina Gibney Dance, NYC, and has been a Dance Teacher at Irvington High School for 10 years. In 2020, After a wonderful 12-year run as the Owner/Director of Effusion Dance Collective, Mrs. Maddox began pursuing other passions, dance therapy & mental health, and enrolled in a Counseling M.Ed. program. She is married to Allen Ricky Maddox and mother to twins, Micah and Ella. It is her desire to continue to educate and impact lives through her work and service."

The Governor’s Awards in Arts Education began in 1980 to promote awareness and appreciation of the arts, recognizing the creativity, talent and leadership of the award winners. Each year, awards are presented to approximately 20 educators and 80 students. National and statewide organizations select the students for their exemplary work in creative writing, speech, dance, music, theatre and visual arts and the leaders for their exceptional commitment and contribution to arts education. The program also recognizes arts educators and arts education advocates, whose leadership has helped nurture the development of students in the arts across the state.
