I, Ariyah Lamin, am a 10th grade student at Princeton Day School in Princeton, New Jersey. Although PDS doesn’t calculate a traditional GPA, I am in the accelerated track within the math department, as well as the honors track for all other available subjects, including foreign language. I am in high academic standing at the school. My favorite subjects are Biology, Chemistry and English. I have a passion for the sciences, performing arts, as well as literature. I enjoy the challenge and critical thinking associated with making new (to me) discoveries in my honors Chemistry labs.I like to express myself creatively through my choreography class where I have choreographed in various styles of dance. In addition to my rigorous course load, on the Princeton Day School campus I wear many hats. I am a dancer, choreographer, musician (clarinet, 3rd chair), an actor, a former student life representative, a tour guide, a volleyball player, and an active member in a plethora of clubs. Outside of school, I am a member of the NAACP, a dancer at a studio, and am the founder/CEO of my newly launched skincare business, Riyal Beauty.

The Governor’s Awards in Arts Education began in 1980 to promote awareness and appreciation of the arts, recognizing the creativity, talent and leadership of the award winners. Each year, awards are presented to approximately 20 educators and 80 students. National and statewide organizations select the students for their exemplary work in creative writing, speech, dance, music, theatre and visual arts and the leaders for their exceptional commitment and contribution to arts education. The program also recognizes arts educators and arts education advocates, whose leadership has helped nurture the development of students in the arts across the state.
