Pharaoh Naggie is a fifteen year old young man who has been a resident of Teaneck, New Jersey since 2010. He has participated in the Bergen County NAACP ACTSO program for the past two years and has earned medals in photography and drawing. Pharaoh participated in the New Jersey State Geography Bee in 2017 & 2018, he represented his middle school in Quiz Bowl competitions, and played in the Teaneck Junior Soccer League. Pharaoh currently volunteers at his local library, he represents his school in Cross Country and Track, and serves on the Englewood Public School District’s Student Superintendent Advisory Council. He is a rising junior at Dwight Morrow High School, where he is studying Engineering in the school’s Academies program. Some of Pharaoh’s hobbies include photography, listening to music, and playing sports. He also enjoys reading, hiking, and drawing.

The Governor’s Awards in Arts Education began in 1980 to promote awareness and appreciation of the arts, recognizing the creativity, talent and leadership of the award winners. Each year, awards are presented to approximately 20 educators and 80 students. National and statewide organizations select the students for their exemplary work in creative writing, speech, dance, music, theatre and visual arts and the leaders for their exceptional commitment and contribution to arts education. The program also recognizes arts educators and arts education advocates, whose leadership has helped nurture the development of students in the arts across the state.
