My name is Raylisa Leonor Uceta Duran, and I am a proud senior at New Brunswick P-TECH High School, set to graduate on June 20th, 2024. Throughout my high school journey, I have been fortunate to receive several awards, including the prestigious 2024 Governor's Awards in Arts Education. I also achieved 1st place in the ACT-SO New Jersey competition in 2024 and earned 2nd and 3rd place ACT-SO New Jersey competition in 2023. As a four-year honor student, I am graduating Summa Cum Laude and have been recognized with the Joan M. Bornheimer Memorial Laptop and the Hall Fund awards scholarship in 2024. Additionally, I received the award for the highest GPA from 2020-2024 at my dual enrollment high school with Middlesex College. In addition to my academic achievements, I have been actively involved in various extracurricular activities and leadership roles. I served as president of the Technology Student Association (TSA Club) during the 2022-2023 school year and participated in the Student Council, Yearbook Club, Spanish Club, Steminist Empowerment Club, and Middlesex College Engineering Club. As I look ahead to the future, I am excited to continue my education by completing my associate degree in engineering science at Middlesex College. Following this, I plan to transfer to Rutgers University to pursue both my bachelor's and master's degrees in biomedical engineering.

The Governor’s Awards in Arts Education began in 1980 to promote awareness and appreciation of the arts, recognizing the creativity, talent and leadership of the award winners. Each year, awards are presented to approximately 20 educators and 80 students. National and statewide organizations select the students for their exemplary work in creative writing, speech, dance, music, theatre and visual arts and the leaders for their exceptional commitment and contribution to arts education. The program also recognizes arts educators and arts education advocates, whose leadership has helped nurture the development of students in the arts across the state.
