Hi! My name is Thomas (Tommy) Anzuini. I am a senior at Burlington City High School. I have been a part of the music program in my school district since I was in third grade. I first started my musical journey on trumpet, and as a member of the choir. By the time I had gotten to seventh grade, I had taken an interest in mallet percussion. I made the switch as a full time percussionist and picked up snare and timpani eventually. I also took interest in both the vocal jazz and jazz band ensembles at my school at this time. By the end of my sophomore year, I decided that I wanted to pursue music in college. I hope to pursue a degree in Music Education with a focus in percussion, and still continuing my passion for vocal and instrumental jazz while in college!

The Governor’s Awards in Arts Education began in 1980 to promote awareness and appreciation of the arts, recognizing the creativity, talent and leadership of the award winners. Each year, awards are presented to approximately 20 educators and 80 students. National and statewide organizations select the students for their exemplary work in creative writing, speech, dance, music, theatre and visual arts and the leaders for their exceptional commitment and contribution to arts education. The program also recognizes arts educators and arts education advocates, whose leadership has helped nurture the development of students in the arts across the state.
